Default Toyota rear axle

A buddy of mine is parting an 89 yota pickup and I was thinkin about grabbin the rear axle. From what I have read they came with 4.10 gears and 30 spline shafts. I know it would need some fab work and it is 6 lug. Has anyone done this? Is it a good idea?

Yota axles would be awesome on an XJ. I just wish the front diff was on the driver's side. I had a set with 5.29s, Lock Rites, 15x10 rims and 35" BFGs, when I bought my XJ but couldn't use them. Yota axles are basically as strong or even a little stronger than D44s.

I've seen it done in a TJ. They are narrower, don't recall how much but narrower than a 8.8. So you should be able to us spacers, get your width back and get you back to 5 on 4.5 bolt...

I didnt think about it being a little more narrow. I like the spacer idea. I wouldnt have to get new wheels.

the cheapest wheel spacers i have found are 200.00. I am thinking about trying to re drill the Toyota axles. if i had to spend 200 on some wheel adaptors and 40 for the drive shaft adaptor i can buy a 8.8
