P0740 I am getting says Torque converter clutch system confirmed. Any ideas what I should check out with this is my torque converter going ? Also I hear a squeak sound in my engine over near where the distributor and alt is I thought maybe a tensioner or belt but can't figure it out maybe engine mount ?

Check the trans fluid level when it is up to operating temp (15 mile drive). While at idle, the fluid level should be between the hole in the dipstick and the MAX mark.


Check the fluid on the dipstick by smelling it. If it smells burnt - not good. Drip some on a white rag or paper towel and see if it's black - not good. Any of these issues would require draining the trans oil pan and replenishing it with fresh Dexron III/Mercon fluid - at least three times.


It could be a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) defect. There is a test for checking the TPS.


The "C" solenoid in the trans could be defective, or its wiring to the TCM could be defective. There are tests for determining this.


Do the trans fluid checks and get back.
