Top Dead Center???
I am trying to get first cylinder in the top dead center but having some trouble with doing that. So I though I would ask if anybody has any ideas what the best way to find the top dead center?

Top dead center would be the compression stroke.
There is a little dimple in the balancer. Find it and clean it up and mark it with paint or white out.
You will see on the right side above the balancer timning marks. Clean those up so you can read them.
2 ways you can do this.
1. pull the valve cover and alighn the marks on the balancer to zero. Both valves on #1 cylinder should be closed.
2. unplug the coil to prevent accidental start. Then pull #1 plug and have a friend click the starter while holding your thumb over the plug hole till you feel pressure Then alighn the marks with a wrench.

Pull #1 plug and put your finger over the hole and bump it over till you feel the compression start.
Now turn it by hand till it stop pushing and you will be close to TDC.
Use a screw driver to finish finding TDC, reach in with a screw driver and feel the piston move up as you turn it by hand. Then compare with the timing marks on the harminic ballancer/vibration dampner.
