I did my headliner and used the headliner glue that stuff is awful, I did part in the worthless headliner glue and most in 3M super 77 I think and the part with the headliner stuff is already falling down, which I don't get because the headliner stuff is 3M too, I don't get it I followed the instructions and and the massive can cant even hold up a quarter of the thing while the mini can I got is working great

 

so what type of adhesive works the best? does it really take 6 cans as its stated in the write up? how much material did you all use? im not near my jeep or i would go measure. i think it was 5 ft by 7ft?

3M's Super trim adhesive is probably the best. I did my first headliner with it in 2003, and just got rid of the car last month. The headliner looked as good as the day I did it.

Permatex Heavy Duty Headliner & Carpet Adhesive is also good, and a bit cheaper. I did my current (Cherokee) headliner with it about 18 months ago, and it still looks good. Only time will tell if it will last as long as my first one. If I recall, I bought six cans and had one left over.

Some say that 3M's Super Spray 77 works well, but my personal opinion is that it won't hold up to sitting in the hot sun. I use it on a regular basis in my work, and whenever I need to "unglue" a fabric that was mounted with it, I use heat. The adhesives mentioned above are resistant to heat, so they would be my first choices.

There are probably other suitable adhesives out there, but these are the ones I've personally used. I have seen some mention of 3M's "90" being used for headliners, but I think has too short of an open time for such a large headliner. I used it once to mount formica, and on a full sized 4x8 foot sheet, if I didn't work fast enough, it dried too quickly to get a good bond.

I used this link but also a tip from another site that said to stiffen up the old liner with fiberglass resin. I painted the liner with oil based kilz paint to seal the porous liner then I painted with fiberglass resin.

Got my liner kit from the guy in GA. He did the Mirrored visors too.

i used about 3 cans of headliner glue, its heat and cold resistant,i put up stock gray then my skulls printed fabric. and its still holding. pics below.
