Too Much Oil
here is my info
1992 cherokee
4.6 stroker 600 miles
finally got it up to 500 miles and at about 100 miles into my first long trip, I stopped because I was overheating. Checked under the hood and I didn't put my fill cap back on... So stupid me thinks that I lost a bunch of oil. I checked the level a bunch of times and I came to the conclusion I lost about 2 quarts(Kinda stupid now. I realized how little oil would really come out without the cap). Later I found out that my dip stick doesn't read right when the engines hot. So I put my 2 extra quarts in and I got about 10 miles before I heard not so good noises. as soon as I started slowing down and I got to 1500 rpms, I started getting rod knocks.
I know the engine is toast. Anyone know what Im going to be looking at when I take the bottom end apart?
Destroyed bearings, Bent rods or what? anyone think I'm going to be able to salvage anything from it?
Anyone else have/heard of this happen, or am I the first to have 8 quarts of oil in a 4.0 block?.

another stupid question. I drained the oil out afterwards till it was on the fill line (after it cooled down and was accurate) It was all metalic-y. Are bearings metallic?

Yessr. Bearing "babbet" actually has "imbedability" . The idea being that a small piece of ,say carborundum, will imbed into it instead of gouging the crank worse. It's not supper hard. I agree exactly with laredo, you wrecked the bearings running it on foam, and the top end might be OK. Not sure why you can't do a compression test to get an idea 4 the cylinders. And Ouch! Sorry man, I feel for ya! (if it's any consolation, a bunch of oil would have blown out of mine!)
