I currently have Michelin 235/75 15's that are in need of replacement.

I don't do any off road and drive less than 15,000 miles per hear. I want a tire that wont affect have minimal affect to my current 17.5 to 18.2 mpg. I do live in an area that gets snow, 10" today but most times it melts in a few days, we also get ice.

Scanning posts shows some of you are happy with the General LT235 75R15 Grabber AT2, but since I don't drive off road this tire may be a bit much.

Suggestions?

I run the at2 almost 25k a year and it does wonderfully. For a cheap at that is good on the highway I would highly reccomend. I don't often get snow and can't say its snow performance, but it should be on par with the bfg at which supposed to be great.

 

I bought the Goodyear armortracs in that size. I like them. quiet, good ride and do very well in the snow. this is my dd, I average 22-23k/yr.

 

I am older now and my off-roading days are over. Still own a Jeep though. I went with Cooper Discovery HT's. I run a 225 75 15 which is stock of my '00 XJ. They do make a 235 75 15. I am happy with them so far. 5 (I have a full size spare) mounted, balanced, new valve stems, and nitrogen in the tires ended up costing me $532 out the door. Then I received a $50 rebate and got $80 for my old 5 matching Wrangler GSA's on Craigslist. $400 worked for me.

 

My cuz recently bought the discount tire brand of there at tires and I'm pretty impressed with the thread, it's a mix of the cooper, falken and Yokohama tire.

 

Better to have than not I guess. My at2's have worked very well for me. Great in the snow and highway.

 

Goodyear wrangler radials. Cheap like $89 per tire. Good traction, long wearing. Running starfire tires on the 01. They were even cheaper but they're 225. Do a search on Amqzon for 235-75-15. Bunch of good tires. They will also tell u the weight of each tire wich obviously the lighter tire would give better gas mileage.

Primitive tire from the early 1980's. They crack, too. Noisy. Don't last very long. Traction so-so.

 

Uniroyal Laredo cross country tour. I have them on my wife's trailblazer. Good every day tire. Good in the rain. I also got caught in a snowstorm driving through West Virginia and they were good

and FWIW I have the older style basic cheap Goodyear wranglers on my XJ. I do not like them.

 

General Grabber AT2.. I rarely off-road too. Great in the snow! I hand calculated around 20.5 MPG highway with these tires too in the size you're looking at.

 

My usage is pretty much like yours, except about twice the mileage or a bit more, including regular gravel road driving, and a tiny bit of very mild off road.

I have the General AT2 Grabbers, and I probably won't buy them again. I have ONE and only ONE complaint about them, but it's enough to make me look elsewhere.

While they have good traction in snow, they follow any kind of rut horribly. I'm talking about just tire tracks in 2 inches of slush. I feel like I'm being grabbed and forced to ride on a railroad track.

Same thing happens if there's some kind of line in the asphalt, like when they grind out a lane line to do shift the lanes over, or where there's a seam in the asphalt. It just really grabs the tire and makes it want to follow.


Otherwise, it's a really good tire. Handles quite well for that kind of tire, stops well, handles rain acceptably, and they are wearing well.

I average about 18-19 MPG with them.

 

here are a cpl pics I took of the armortracs. edit: no. total cost to get them to my house was $378. I have over 25k miles on them and they still look great and ride well. they are a bit noisier, but can't be heard unless you have the radio off andva dead quiet jeep anyway.
