Default tire help...

alright i was lookin at the dick cepek crusher radials and wondering how well they'll actually workout for me, my rig will see mostly road time as a dailydriver but after a nice rain i love to find a nice mud hole... but occasionally we do some crawling around rough terrain on a few trails but nuthing to extreme... occasionally me and my buddies head down to the beach and tear up some sand dunes but not often enough i wanna buy seperate tires for that terrain... and i have yet to find a allterrain tire that doesnt pack up and spin in a mud hole... i wanna stay within the 31"-33" range tho... wanna go with 17" rims.... maybe 15 or 16's but unsure... so you guys tell me... wut type of tires your running on your rigs... and how well they perform in these different kinds of terrain.... and make a suggestion on size...

I have 33 inch Maxxis Bighorns on my 91 XJ. They are well mannered on the street. Very quiet and do well on wet pavement. They are awesome on mud, logs and rocks. I haven't had them in snow or on sand yet but, plan to do that soon. When aired down they seem to float my rig really well over anything I've tried them on.

Tires for 15-16" will be considerably cheaper. I think its pointless to go any larger than that anyways, as you do not have as much sidewall. I would go with either Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO's or Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs Both are road friendly, wear good, and not too harsh on the wallet for what you get. Or, you could go with some treadwright MT/R's.. basically the same as the Wrangler MT/R's.

X2 on the Bighorns. As well as several others. The crushers will do fine in the mud but on the street they won't ride as well as a less aggressive MT would I'm sure. They look like a toned down bigger and you'd hate that for a DD. You won't gain anything over any other MT by going with them.

How much lift you running and why 17s? That's not much sidewall at all on 31-33s.

Oh, forgot, my tires are 33x12.50x15s. I personally wouldn't go bigger than a 15" rim on an off road rig because they have the best bead seal but, definitely not bigger than a 16" rim on an XJ under any circumstance just because it would look dumb.

ive got a 4.5" lift on the way and i already have to fenders trimmed for a 31" tire on stock ride hieght.... but 3 of my buddies have two door tahoes one with 20" rims and the other two have 18" well the two with 18's are just mall crawlers and the one with 20's actually takes his offroad once in a while with me... he got em wrapped in 35" toyo's and i dont really want that big a tire or rim.... but i like the look of a smaller sidewall and since it'll be a dailydriver.... im not worried about needing maximum sidewall and about 6" of sidewall i think will be fine for now.... after i get another vehicle in a couple years then my cherokee will prolly just become my tow rig for my next project... an '88 suzuki samurai thats my dads...

Build your XJ right and I guarantee you for the same amount of money and effort...OR LESS, your XJ could be twice the off road beast any Samaurai could be.

Makes sense, Bro. I love my XJ, too. Too, much to turn it into a Trailor Queen. That's why it is only built as much as it is.
