It's either 3.07 or 3.55. I thought most of the manuals had the 3.07, but maybe with the tow package they put the lower gearing on them?
If you want to PM me your VIN number, I can look it up for you when I get to work in the morning.

Looking at your spec sheet that you put up on your XJ you have a manual, you have 3.08 gears. I went to 3.73 to give me better power and mpg ( yeah i know) on my 00 when i lifted it and geared it. If you had an auto I would say start around 4.10's. There are online charts that give you a good look at what your asking...
The crawl ratios the auto has the torque converter so it can more easily handle the taller ratios.
My 95 has 33" with 3.55 the motor is 30 over but my 4L is to low for almost all offroading. When it was on the road I didn't notice much power loss but did get bad mpg like 11. But I'm not afraid of putting my foot down. I don't think u will have any issues at all. Unless ur doing some intense rockin. And at that point u open up a huge rang of upgrades and drain ur bank account.

tell us a bit about your jeep, auto or manual transition? you said you have the tow package? what size lift do you have? that also effects your tire choice unless you are comfortable with cutting your fenders

that will look good with 4.5 inchs!
so i just regeared mine and went to 4.56's with a 5speed and 33's with the inline 6, same setup as you, 1 inch on the tires wont matter much.
i went with to low of a gear because the shop i had do it well pissed me off and couldnt order 4.10's but i really think you would be happiest with 4.10's
4.56's gave it alot of power and if it was just a trail rig ide like it but its my daily driver and anything over 55 is asking alot of the engine and it sucks fuel, to compensate for this i'll be going to 35's
if this is your daily driver and weekend wheeler or not even really a wheeled rig i would strongly suggest 4.10's

this is a great little tool, you have the ax-15 trans the np231 transfer case and then enter your tire size (32) and the gear ratios your looking at are 4.10 and 4.56
the gearing you have now is 3.07... 4.10's put you back to the closest numbers as it was to stock and can be done the cheapest, if you have a friend that can weld or if you can a ford 8.8 rear axle from any 4cyl ranger can be swapped to your jeep really easy, then you take the front drive shaft out until you can find a front axle or until you do it yourself or have a shop do it. if the drive shaft is left in and 4wd is used many spendy parts will grind and break.
spend some time on that website its really useful, the power band of the engine tops out at around 2700 RPM'S so at the highest freeway speed you want to be going you want to be at roughly 2700RPM'S
if that doesn't clear it up pm me and i'll better explain it, as for now im going to bed
i looked at your pics and it looks as if you like trail rides the most, so no need for crazy amount of low end torque that the 4.56's would give. 4.10's will make it drive like it was stock

since you have a standard shift you have factory 307 gearing you will notice a change in your speedometer reading will be off about 8 miles an hour or so on the highwat and going up hills you will need to use a lower gear off road you might need to youse low 4 more often i hope this gives you an idea i drove 5 years with 33 and stock gearing its just some thing you have to get used to and gas mileage is going to change
