Hello All,

I recently bought a 2001 Cherokee Classic, the 3rd Cherokee I have owned over the years. This one however, seems to have extremely tight steering, to the point where it takes a bit of muscle to turn. The previous owner recently put new bushings, sway bars and tires on it less than 2K miles ago. At first I thought the power steering pump might be going bad, but after testing it and having a mechanic look at it, it seems to be functioning properly. Any insight to what could lead to having overly tight steering? Thanks!

Disconnect the pitman arm and see where the problem is- steering box side or downstream of it.

Thanks for the info! The rig has about 187,000 miles on it.

The 2000-01 XJs seem to have a tighter feel than the other model years. I don't know why though.
