Tidying up a Renix engine bay? Cluttered and extras?
The engine bay on my 89 drives me insane. It's cluttered, there's wiring that goes to who knows what, ghetto vacuum lines and so on. What can I do to tidy up the engine bay? Are there certain things that can be deleted? A/c is inop and I will never need it as this vehicle is only on the road for winter duty, is there a delete pulley available? I also have wires that go to relays, two of them, but both of the inline fuses aren't even in there so currently they dont do anything, can anybody help me with what they might have been for?
These white wires were for fog lights at one point I already ripped those out
These two power wires, no fuses in the holders?
Go to these, one runs back through the firewall, I hate all this wiring bull *****!!

WOW!
A lot of those wires look like after market. The best thing to do is follow them and see where they go. and if they lead to nothing pull them. Sorry, I can't be more help to you.

i'm also constantly tidying up my renix engine bay. I started with the stereo stuff the po had in there, then the vacuum harness (just used my imagination) then i went on to the egr mess (bye bye) then the cruise control (just my preference to not have it). next up is ac delete and some custom harness work. its never ending, but i like taking my time, and at least i always have something to do!

How did you go about deleting the egr? I could delete egr/ac/ and cruise control and not care. I'm not looking for a "clean" or wore tucked engine bay, I'd just really like to simplify it and make it look less cluttered.

when i tried to fix my exhaust manifold crack, i plugged the hole in the exhaust manifold and turned the fitting on the intake manifold into a plug as well. then i removed all the vacuum lines going to the doo hickey on the inner fender and the solenoid. that was a year ago.

For accessory wiring, using SJOOW (available at your local hardware store by the foot, usually) works well. I use it for added lighting and such - you can get it with two wires or three wires in a common jacket easily, and I think it's available (check specialty stores) with up to five or six wires in.
Your vacuum lines may be easily replaced - NAPA carries the set under their Belkamp brand now, and all three part numbers you need should be less than a $50 bill. I don't recall the part numbers, but you should be able to find them easily through NAPAOnline.
Trace any wire that doesn't look OEM. If it doesn't go anywhere, it comes out. If it's in good condition and identifiable, save it for future use. If it isn't, or you don't plan on doing electrical work, throw it in the scrap bin (I run an aggressive recycling programme around the house, which is what usually funds projects. Brass, bronze, aluminum, copper, zinc, stainless - if it's worth the fuel to haul it in, I take it. If it isn't, I let the City pick it up.)
Between vacuum lines and stripping out the unused wiring, you should see a marked improvement in your engine bay (going by the pix.)
