Default thud when stopping and starting

It's not play in the joints. Going from park to drive, reverse back and forth does not cause it. But if I come to a complete stop I can feel a slight thud like something is rotating forward slightly and then back again when I take off. Any idea what this is? Could it be the extra give my old and worn rear springs have allowing for some rotational movement? I'm trying to get any and all minor things 100% before throwing on the lift and tires.

I was told the same thing (I have it too), does it sound like a bowling ball rolling around in back? I'm sure that's it.

I just greased that slip joint. Fixed the sound and feeling of the thud. Only took 20 minutes.

'96 and later have a slip yoke on the rear driveshaft that can cause what you're describing.

I had the same thing. Turns out it was my front track bar loose. Tightened it up and no more bowling ball in the trunk sound.

I'm going to try greasing the slip joint. I'll be underneath the rear end today anyhow replacing the diff cover gasket that the previous owner obviously didn't replace it when at some point it was removed. I have a slow leak. Oddly enough on the front diff it appears to have a very tiny or maybe old pinion seal leak. Doesn't look fresh, so maybe nothing to worry about. But I'm gona check all the fluid levels anyhow.

I had the same thing, and did several things at once so i am not sure which one did it, but I replaced all the diff fluids, t-case fluids and fixed my right rear brake (leaky seal) as well as all tie rods, tie rod ends (not sure what they are all called but most of the front end steering components) and it is now gone. I hope this helps

No. I was just describing the sound as a bowling ball in the trunk.
