Not going to explain why I need rear splash gaurds, but I haven't been able to locate even 1 to make a template so I made a template from cardboard (thanks starlink!). It's wider than the original and currently it's 12x18. Going to buy a set of 12x18's from Amazon and cut them to the template.
Any thoughts as to if they look almost right compared to the originals?
lol nice advertisement for starlink! I'm fairly certain that the xj didn't come with mudflaps, most people I know out here, when needed (which is only when tires stick out farther than factory) bolt on a piece of square tube to the body, and then bolt rubber to the square tube. will be watching!

Actually they were available and had Jeep part numbers. I have the p/n's somewhere but here's a pic the front and rears.
The molded ones are for 97 - 01 I believe, the ones I pictured are for 84 - 96. I have the fronts, but haven't installed them yet. Until I find original rears I'll make some from my template. Ordered a pair of universal 12x18x1/4 thick guards last night for $26 + tax, so will cut them to shape and see how they work.
Looks like you're on the right path. Tweet the pic to Musk. Here's a set, similar size to what you're making. 9x15 so they're smaller, but not small. I have a set like these I bought a long time ago for a different Jeep. IDK if they're the exact same or the heavier-duty ones, I'd have to see the Advance one to verify. But they were pretty nice. Be worth a trip to Advance and look at if you have a store near you and liked the flaps. Anyway, Good luck!!
