Default Temp help

Wife is a lettercarrier in SOuth MS, very hot and rough on her 2000 Cherokee in the summer. She has started having overheating issues and I think its the thermostat. Not an expensive fix but I was wondering if I could have her run it without a thermostat for the summer? After 2 or 3 days the reserve is about empty. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It's not really good for your engine. I'm curious as to why you would go through the effort to take it out but not replace it. It costs like six bucks and will take you 0.2 seconds longer to put a new one in than reassemble it without.

If after 2-3 days the resivoir is empty ...you have a leak! pressure test the cooling sys and see where the coolant went. If you run without a t stat it can go one of two ways, 1) coolant will circulate so fast it will have no time to disapate heat, engine will run too hot. 2) engine will run too cool and never warm up and use more fuel.

Good luck!

No thought process just thought it may help. Will check for leaks as I dont see anything. Any way to help it run cooler with all the stop and go in the +100 temps.

In a properly functioning cooling system, u need coolant flowing fast thru the rad, that means it's also flowing fast thru the motor, which is good and what u want.

What maintenance has been done? XJ has a really dinky radiator....all cooling system components MUST be in top notch condition to keep temps under control.
