its on the driverside on top of the head all the way at the back.Be careful not to over tighten . It will break off. Its like hollow brass so be careful.

That's not it. It's on the driver's side of the manifold, all the way at the back. It's a brass fitting with a nipple on the top that has a cap that attaches to it.
If no one has any pictures available, I'll take one of it tonight and will post it. I replaced mine in my 1990 Laredo last weekend so it's still nice and bright and shiny and easy to see

If you are talking about water temp,it is located on the drivers side on the head against the firewall not the manifold, there is a temp guage on the manifold for reading air temp but you do not see that,it is only for the ecm,it is a screw in brass sending unit that appears to be threaded, which is where you attached the wire

That is the correct location. Drivers side rear of the head where the last head bolt is.

Im not trying to be crass or anything but I am really intrested in what other sensor goes in the same location as the temp guage/ idiot sender? Which year did that change? for further refrence in case someone else comes up with it....
Honestly I only see one wire going into to and. every jeep Ive owned and run across with a 4.0 has it there. the one in the manifold is further towards the fender on tb side of the intake. The temp sensor for the renix is in the block under the manifold .

the sensor still does the same job, it just has a different style connection. I found this out when my temp sensor failed a few months ago and I went to the junk yard and found that there are two different types of sensors that do the same job. I was confused too. I have the sensor that looks like the first picture, and I found many xj's that had the second picture style. No idea why there are two kinds, it didn't have any rhyme or reason with year/model either.

Thanks for the info... Ill keep that in the back of my mind for the next time its needed. I didnt think they would use two differnt styles/types. so one of them has a square female plug in it and ine is just a stud im assuming.
Thanks again.
