I wouldn't think so.
The '00 transmission has an Input Speed Sensor, the '97 does not. The '00 also has a different Output Speed Sensor.
The '00 TCM internal diagnostics program will be looking for inputs from the ISS and OSS which won't be there from the '97 transmission, and will trigger a Diagnostic Trouble Code(s). And one leg of the OSS will not be there for the '97 transmission input.

Mine tested good using the directions you gave me on another thread. I just took a bunch of parts from a local junk yard my buddies own.
My 97' is an odd xj, I have all 98 interior. My friend with a similar 97 has the old interior in his. I know 97 is probably the worst year to own lol
