Hey everyone. First off I'm on my phone right now, I tried searching for this answer and couldn't find it. I looked through the first 100 threads in the xj write up section and didn't find it either.
I've got to figure out which tcase I have tomorrow so I can start looking for a replacement. From what I found the best way to find out which one I have is to remove it and take a look. I haven't been able to find a YouTube or write up on how to remove the tcase. Does anyone know of a write up or video they can point out to me on the process?

I just did this with my 231 with auto trans. It sucked
Don't forget to support your transmission with a floor jack or something of the like.

The other thing that you can do is contact Jeep from the link below, and ask them for the build sheet for your Jeep. You will need the VIN. I have done this twice, each time I received a response in less than 24-hours:

Well today was far from productive. I woke up super late and zero motivation. I peeked under jeep and found the model number is 231

remove the rear driveshaft, linkage (just pops out) and 6 or 8 bolts/nuts (they are nuts on studs) sometimes the whole stud will come out.
use a stubby 9/16 on the top two nuts, otherwise a regular wrench/socket may be all you need.
you will likely need to drop the cross member to get the top nuts out, so be sure to support the transmission safely when doing so.
other than that, there is the speedo clip/cable and possibly vac lines/breather vent hose to remove also.
be ready when you get that last nut off, it's very freakin heavy.
actually, 93 won't have vac lines, and may or may not have an electric speedo sensor...
Does anyone have a pic or a diagram of where these two nuts are and whatever other bolts connect the Tcase to the tranny? I've been under my jeep for an hour looking and cannot tell what bolts are to the tranny and what are to the tcase. I've remove the bolts holding the cross member on.Originally Posted by caged

Ok so this is my set up. The two circles are where the tranny to transfer case bolts are. It should be the same on the other side... The arrow is where the shift linkage is make sure you disconect that before dropping it. The right side of the bolts is the tranny left side is the t-case.
Did you pull the catalitic out of the rubber bushing next to the t-case? If not its a real pain in the ***! I can give you a tip to get it out faster. Get a floor jack under it to so you can bring it down slow that way you can check for vacuum lines and or connectors.

Thank you! This should do the trick. The cat is completely off right now so I've got tons of room just couldn't see where the bolts wereOriginally Posted by cmartin2112

Without really reading through what you have going there, thought I'd post this link. Is for the clutch, but he starts with the T Case.......
