Default TC drop help..

Hey guys, im trying to install my 1.5'' tc drop but i cant seem to remove my stock tc skid plate. The bolt turns but wont come out...does the bolt have a nut on the other side or should it just twist out because it goes into the frame.

I think there's a nut set into tangs inside the frame and it probably broke loose. Or as freegdr said...either the tapped part or bolt just stripped.

I've never done a TC drop, but doesn't it involve spacing the crossmember down? If yes, than how about cutting off the bolt and welding a new nut on the frame?

If you are talking about the crossmember just use some vice grips because as stated 2 bolts and 2 studs. In your original post you said t-case skid which is just 2 bolts in the crossmember and 2 bolts in the unibody. A crossmember and skid are two very different things, so make sure you are asking about the correct one.

Yes your right, its the two bolts going into the unibody. Thats the one im inquiring about. I went to remove the skid and the bolt just kept turning and turning so im thinking can i just cut it off? or is there a weld nut in the unibody that i need to replace?

Just went through this a few weeks ago. OK the two bolts just unscrew, if you can break them loose.

The two studs have little shoulders about midway down their length.

These shoulders are just too big to fit through the crossmember holes.

You have to lower the crossmember one side at a time to remove the studs.

Now the frame threads are gonna likely be stripped.

I used a hole saw to drill one inch holes through the sides of the frame rails to gain access to put top nuts on my new longer bolts. It is a bit of a trick, but you can do it.

When I took my skid odd it was kinda hard to tell. Im guessing that there is probably a nut in the unibody. If your just installing a t-case drop you should be ok to just leave the skid bolted up to the unibody side and remove the bolt on the crossmember side. That should still give you enough room the drop the while thing down. Or you could even try leaving the skid bolted up and just dropping down one side of the crossmember at a time.
