Default T-Case Swap Question

Hey fellas,
My NP242 in my 92 took a dump slung the chain and cracked the case...So a buddy of mine had a 94 Grand Cherokee with the 231 in it that got totaled by a falling tree and told me I could have what ever I wanted off of it before the insurance came to pick it up. I got the NP231 out no problems. My only concern is that the switch on the 231 Is different then my old 242. The 242 only has a 2 wire switch whereas the 231 had a 4 wire switch. I know I dont need this to actually get the transfer case to work but it would be nice to have everything working. Whats the best way to take care of this situation.

The 4 wire plug might be for the VIC (Vehicle information center) in the ZJ.

Thanks guys. I lined it up with the old one and from what. We coukd tell looked like it would fit. Plus i had to put my old t-case back in the donor vehicle b/c it was an insirance thing and they wanted a complete vehicle and it slid right in no problems. So fingers crossed this 231 will go in no problems. I plan on ordering then the cable conversion for the shifter so i did nt worry about linkages. When it comes down to it i really dont need the switch but it would be nicemto have evrrything working

Yea Im almost positive it should work with a little to no modding. I know some GC guys with the NP249 get the Tcase from our cherokees either a 231 or 242 and swap them in so they have a selectable 4wd and not full time all the time. Mainly on just the slightly newer ones that dont have the option of 2WD.

EDIT: Although after a bit of digging I think you might need a different input shaft if the tcase out of an 42RE. If you got it out of an AW4 it should be ok. but if you got it out of a 42RE the inputshaft is gonna be slightly longer. Cherokee shaft(left) GC shaft (right)

Thanks for the info sam. According to Novak Conversions it should work as they both have the medium shaft and 23 spline count. So i dunno... Guess the only way to find out is to try to stick it in...im gonna try tomorrow and i will keep you posted.
