Default t case question???

hey i just bought a 231 t case and i was goin to switch out the chains from that to the one in my t case on the jeep but i notice the tail shafts are different...the one i have the tail shaft recieves from the driveshaft and the one i bought the tail shaft goes into the driveshaft...i was wonderin if i can take those tailshafts off and just swicth them??? please and thank you

you probably have a sye from your description and if so yes you can switch them but some pics would make it easier to understand what your saying

here they are...sorry took me so long but one of them is the one i bought and the other one is darker is the one still on the jeep now...so how would i take them off and swicth them?

What year XJ is the t-case you purchased out of?

The tail shaft did have two different designs depending on years. That looks to be the difference between those two from what I can gather.

yeah i cant see the dark one... but i dont think i could help ya even if i could... i just know what one looks like if its got a slip yoke or not... lol

If my memory serves me correct 96 is the change to a different tail shaft.

i dont see why not? the case is still the same i think... ive never take apart a xfer case before but im not sure why swapping chains really makes a difference anyway? you would need the newer driveshaft also...

alright but if i swap out tcases and put a new driveshaft i have another questions...there are two connectors, one is for 4x4 but whats the other one...its a bigger connector and i know its not on the tcase i have on now so i was wonderin what that is and wonderin if i should worry or not
