SYE and XJ front shaft
I was looking through the threads regarding SYE's and Hack n Tap setups. Everything talks about running the front shaft from a XJ with the HnT but could you run it with a real SYE kit? Or would it be too long? Or am I just missing something simple...

Lots of people run a front driveshaft with an SYE. I run one with a 3.5" lift. Works nice. How high are you lifting it? I imagine there is a limit to how high you can go with a front driveshaft.

only 3.5 to 4in. I just figured I would rather do a true SYE and save the money with a front shaft from a junkyard XJ as long as it works.

Yea, you'll be fine with that. Are you planning on shimming the rear to point the pinion at the SYE? You'll like it if you do... Much smoother even at higher speeds. Of course the best way is to cut the spring perches off and reweld to the angle desired rather than using shims.

Thanks Mike! I will be tossing a 8.8 under it in another month or two so it will be welded. I will prob shim until then. Time to go to the local JY!

as stated the XJ front DS is probably only good for 4", maybe more if you dont have too much axle droop. what you might want to consider is a mid 90's dodge dakota front DS. its 31.406" long, whereas the XJ front DS is 30.66". if you need a bigger one yet, the ZJ front DS is 32.87". i dont think it would be your best interest with the ZJ one though, unless youre at something like 5"+

Good info! Are those measurements from vehicles with Auto's or Manual trans? Seems that there is a slight difference from what I have read.
