I dont know much about tcase drops or sye setups, but here is a writeup on the hockey puck drop (by "evmo")

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/hom...se-drop-24651/

I think you can replace the stud with a piece of grade 8 allthread maybe? Im not sure on how you would do that... Maybe you can look up some tcase drop kits and see what the directions say?

edit: not much of a writeup, but maybe it will give you some ideas...

yeah def go for the t-case drop. there much cheaper and should get rid of your problem. at 3" the SYE isnt really necessary IMO

i say make sure you cant get a longer driveshaft from like a ZJ or something.. maybe with a different rear axle... JY it... would fix your issue and save you ground clearance...

I was told by the local 4X4 shop that a t-case drop kit will screw up the linkage. They recommended a SYE, but we're talking about a $500 difference between the two. I would love some real input from other lifted XJ owners on whether they've had problems with their drop kits and a 3" drop.

look for a used sye I just pick one up for $100 and I got the back half of the case so all I had to do was bolt it up, got a front drive shaft and a flange adapter for my 8.8 rear axle, the guy that I got the sye from had some RE longarms pick them up for $300 you just got to wait on a deal to come by

I heard that a t case can mess up your linkage as well..... i was thinking about a sye.. but i'm a little nervous about taking the t case all apart... don't know what it looks like in there and i don't want to mess anything up...

I hear that if you have reasonable tech skills its possible and someone mentioned a thread with a step by step in this site.. I suppose I would try it at this point and I fear screwing it up too.. but like I said.. ppl have said its a lot easier than one might think

good luck
