Default Sway Bar Play

I have 3 questions.

1 - I grabbed my swaybar and put some force on it laterally and it moved back and forth about a 1/2 inch. Is this normal/acceptable?

2 - If it is a problem, would new bushings fix it?

3 - Are there any swaybar upgrades for the XJ? I have never seen them but I wasn't sure.

Nobody ever put aftermarket sway bars into production due to the fact that most XJ owners have a XJ due to limited funds (which may or may not be the case for a lot of us).

If your swaybar is making a lot of noise (squeaking) it is due to the fact that the bushings are worn. My swaybar has play but it is also very noisy due to the bushings. If your swaybar doesnt have noise I wouldnt worry about it until it starts getting noisy.

addco makes some aftermarket xj swaybars.

but for the offroad crowd you could upgrade to a currie anti-rock.

measure the diameter of your swaybar and go the auto pahts store and pick up some bushings to fix that play.

i was under the impression that currie stopped its XJ production for swaybars?

i would say a heavy duty tie rod is a good mod. only if you upgrade to larger tie rod ends and a beefier drap link. having a upgraded tie rod only leads to bent drag links and snapped tie rod ends.

as for currie, they do have the universal anti-rocks that could be mated ot an xj with an unknown amount of work.

other options would be the newskyjacker deely and the new teraflex deely

while we are on the tie rod discussion, you can also use a ZJ tie rod on a XJ which is a bit stronger the the XJ's stock tie rod.

Really? Is it the right lenght? I need a new horn from a jeep anyway and so maybe ill pick up a new tie rod while im at it, my current one is bent. I know that throws the alignment off but im thinking maybe i can just adjust for it??

Currie XJ Sway-bar Part# CE-9900XJ. Retails at 475.95. The universal kit is 369.95. It work great you just need to fab up some simple brackets.

You can pick up new urethane bushings from autozone for about $20, they're greasable too!
