Well after having my stock stereo for some time, I decided that i just wasn't getting enough bump out of them. So I got ahold of my buddy that works at best buy and got myself some awesome deals on the stuff I need.
I got a 300 watt Kicker Comp 12 and a 300 watt Polk audio amp. The End result sounds really good.
I've seen some others do this same installation in their XJ's, so i decided to give it a try as well.
Went to menards bought a sheet of 3/4" MDF Board, some screws, expanding foam, and some weather stripping, then ran to walmart for Some auto carpet.
After I got everything I needed, I Started in on the job. First I took one last look at the useless cubby hole in the back.

next we gutted the jeep for the wiring installation and amp hook up.

cut out the cubby from the whole side panel so we had a spot for the sub, used that piece to draw up a template, then cut out the MDF Board

after careful cutting and recutting to get it perfect it fit like a glove. Next came cutting the actual hole for the woofer. Got that squared away and set everything in to get an idea what it would look like and if any adjustments were needed.

For the most part everything was all set to finish up. Got the Foam spray inside the cubby and sealed everything up real nice, while that was sitting we ran the wiring for everything. Got the amp all set up under the rear seat (pictures later) and finished all the other wiring i needed.
Wrapped the enclosure in the carpet I bought, and mounted the woofer, put the weather stripping around the enclosure to seal everything up real nice and finished it up. The end result was very nice actually.

all said and done for everything I only paid about $200 For everything to do this project. Pretty fun and i get great sound as a end result, so i really can't complain. Even with the small space and not being ported it packs a punch.

Does it rattle? I tried making one of these last summer and my little rockford R1 rattled it so bad the MDF board started cracking. So I built a proper box.
Your install looks pretty good though, very clean

Not a whole lot of rattle, it does a little bit, but I'm gonna put some more foam in-between the MDF and the places i mounted it to. then it should clear it up pretty well. but it sounds really good, and I'm very happy with the looks of it!
I put my 10" Memphis in the same spot, only difference is I oh cut the cubby large enough so the sub would sit flush with the mdf I put on the front, I have's sealed the back yet, having the space around the rear of the speaker is acting like a port, not getting alot of vibration, I figure I'll dynomat the area around the sub if the vibration gets to be annoying. The space you save doing it this was is invaluable,

Yeah but the one from Quadratec is an 8" and not a very good quality speaker. I've got 3 10's in a box, takes up so much space. Love the sound, hate the size. Guess you can't get something for nothing.
Yours looks really nice, like how you did that. Just keep an eye on that amp, they like to heat up.

so you cut out the space in the cubby and in serted the board and speaker in the factory panel? How did you anchor the wood to the plastic?
