Default Stupid shock question

When installing the front shocks, how far do you tighten down the top of them under the hood? The instructions called for a torque wrench, which I don't have.

I was wondering if you just tighten it down all the way to the bottom of the thread.

Doh!

Geez...I love these answers: "Tighten them real tight but not too tight"

You can put 40 pounds of torque on a nut with a normal open-end hand wrench...but you'll be very hard pressed to put 100 pounds on it. 100 is lug-nut torque.

So...use a hand wrench and put them on tight but don't grit your teeth and reef on them - just pull until you feel the wrench bite into your hand a bit. That'll do.

You put double nuts on there anyway to lock them together. Be careful you don't add torque with the second nut. Use two wrenches and you can put some muscle into binding the second nut to the first.

I tightened mine until the rubber bushings were about compressed to 3/4 of their original height. As long as the top of the shock is not loose, you should be fine.
