Hey guys im new here and i actually have a couple questions. I bought a 1997 jeep cherokee 2d. At least thats what i thought, it had a 1997 jeep manual but im not so sure its a 1997 anymore. Are there any distinct differnces in 1996 and 1997?

Look at the emissions sticker under the hood, it's on the driver side of the firewall. It will tell you what year the vehicle is.

Yes its a 96 or earlier looking at the body.
96 was the last year the 'infrared' key FOB was used. If you have electric locks that work and that small amber dome, then it should be good to go.
I have at least one of the FOBs available for purchase. Tested and working on my 1996 XJ Classic. Being an infrared system the FOB must be pointed at the dome and within 2 feet of the vehicle. Still better than using a key. $25 shipped.
