Default Stupid noob questions

I have a few questions and I have a few problems but before I figure out where to start with the few issues I have, I need to know a few things.

1. How do you know what transfer case, transmission and front and rear differentials that I have?

Ok, That's pretty it. I am almost certain I have a Chrysler 8.25 rear end but I'm not quite sure.

I'm having a few issues with my either my differential or transmission somewhere but like I mentioned, I have no clue what items I have.

My Jeep is a 1994 Cherokee with the 4liter inline6, 5 speed and 4 doors, if that means anything.

Thanks

Yeah, I did that with my other truck when I had it. I think I might do that since I have the afternoon off tomorrow.

It's funny though because my Chilton's manual that I have, or maybe I can't read, doesn't say or I can't figure it out!

Pick up a factory service manual! IMO, the Chilton type manuals are a waste of money. The factory manual will help you decode your VIN, and though it will cost more than a Chilton type book a real service manual will pay for itself the first time you have a problem.

The tranfercase will have a round red and silver tag on it with what model case and gear ratio it is.

I found this post a while back while trying to educate myself about my jeep a little bit more concerning it's stock specs. It's got everything. Years, models, what axles they all have, trannies, TC's the works. Check it out, Posted by halmotors.
