I've been trying to track down rain leaks in my '99 XJ front passenger side after having patched the floor from damage caused by years of rain apparently getting under the carpet unnoticed. In a heavy rain I do see water leaking down from the heater box area and will no doubt have to seal the air intake area to stop that. However even in a moderate rain I'm seeing a leak coming from a seam in what looks like the inner rocker or sill under the front door opening. (There is no trail of water above the seam so I don't think it's coming in through the door gasket.) There's light rain today and there is no water dripping from under the dash but I'm seeing this, how the heck is rain water getting in there with the Jeep just parked?
It's possible, but I'd suspect the antenna grommet. A leak from that will run along the inside, behind the power distribution center and down to the floor. It's hard to see, and to get to the grommet you have to remove the passenger fender.
Pull that kick panel and poke your head up there. Get someone else to hose it down. You can sorta see it with a flashlight. Otherwise, the fender has to come off.
Not hijacking thread, but I just pulled my inner plastic panel off and the antenna grommet is right there. Why do you need to take the fender off? It's seems you could seal that grommet from the inside if you needed to or am I missing something? I'm not leaking there, but curious.
Well, today I soaked the area of the antenna really good with a garden hose, certainly much more water than the recent light rain, but no water seepage inside. Will have to pull the kick panel and take a closer look.
