Just put on some 31x10.5x15 and there is plenty of clearance. Only rubs a little at full lock. I guess I might have a little lift but the XJ was as stock looking as can be when I bought it. It had 215/75/15 tires on it, even has the stock stereo. Was in the PO family since 1996.
I just measured mine. 19" front and 18.5" rear from wheel well to tire. I have 2" spacers and 1.75" rear shackles- plus flat rear springs. 😁

I know it's older but I came across this post while trying to figure out which crown coil springs to buy. Have found 3 sizes of static height. 16,16.5and 18-3/4. Still not sure which to get but I checked distance from top of axle tube to bottom of frame rail and its 7.5 inches on one of my stock 98's. Not 6-3/4 as 96xj stated. Guess I need to figure out the factory code first. I'm afraid to go with the moog springs because of bad reviews I've read. Crowns should be ok hopefully.

So I just checked my others. The 01 wich is the one that I'll be replacing springs in is 7 inches. My 99 wich I bought with unknown lift, coils said rusty's on them sitting at 9 1/2 so they must be 2 inch lift springs. The 98 I drive is at 13 1/2 so I'm assuming 6 inch lift. The other 98 I just picked up for parts had a 3 month old lift installed which PO said was a 6 inch is sitting at 12 1/2 but that side is compressed a little because it's not parked on a level surface. Hope this helps someone.

Agreed! Take the stock and subtract it from the current and there's your definitive lift height!
