FWIW, if u replace the t-stat, water pump, hoses and radiator at the same time, only need to drain/re-fill coolant once.....otherwise u will have to drain/re-fill coolant with each individual component changed, if the new t-stat doesn't solve the problem. Changing it all at once just about eliminates the guess work.

So the coolant overflow bottle is pretty much empty again. the coolant was noticeably leaking from the water pump before which is why i replaced it. now i cant seem to find a leak yet there is only like 1/2 an inch of fluid left
. there's some weird yellow s*** coming out of the bottom of the thermostat housing that was there before when the problem first arose. ill be replacing the thermostat and and housing/mounting gasket saturday. I know i have the 0331 head but the oil seems perfectly fine, there is no knock in the engine and there is no white smoke coming from the tail pipe except when cold which i take as normal. any ideas are appreciated. ill post a pic of the yellow goo stuff tomorrow. Thanks

When you cleaned the lines and such were they really bad? Could be clogged up in the water passages in the engine. I recently had my heater core cleaned and it was full of junk and I cleaned the radiator. I took the thermostat out, and left it out and the temp still goes to 120 degrees I got flush it and hope and pray I don't do anymore damage.

Not a clue what that **** is... But it can't be good. I would replace the thermostat housing and gasket. And post pics of the inside of the old one.

Besides all you have already done, make sure your electric fan is engaging. Disconnect the connector and it should run continuosly. Also, the mechanical fan clutch might need replacing. My 93 had the same issues and after replacing every component to include the radiator I found the thermostat switch for electrical fan inop. Good thing I planned to keep it, everything is new.
