If your XJ is your sole means of transportation/making a living, u need to do maintenance 1st and foremost. Lift, and presume big tires, will place increased load on the motor, making overheating worse.

Since u have the 0331 head, I'd suggest removing the rad cap (MOTOR COLD) every day and checking/topping off coolant level 'til u have a chance to replace the cooling system.

Yeah I check the levels everyday cause before it was losing it from the old water pump. Can anyone recommend a good three row radiator and fan setup? I was looking at the fan kit from dirt bound offroad but it seems to have about the same output as the factory system. I guess what I'm really asking about dirt bounds setup is what's the benefit of it other than the fact that it covers more area?

Use caution if selecting a 3 row aftermarket rad and aftermarket efans. Aftermarket rads are NOT a 3X thicker core....only about 1/4" thicker than OE. Less rows but wider rows is the way of the modern rad vs old school more rows but narrow rows. FWIW, factory standard cooling only has 1 rad fan....the belt driven fan and apparently they ran cool enough when ALL cooling system components are in top notch condition.

Buy your self a 5 dollar thermostat and see if it changes anything most of the time when cars are over heating its caused by a failed thermostat and its a 15 minute job
Mine used to overheat. Found it was my control module, instead of replacing it I made a switch for it. So whenever I'm slow moving like when wheeling or in traffic I flip it on. Works like a charm

Check your thermostat before you go buying a 3 row Rad and triple efans man, if its stuck closed or partially closed nothing will be as helpful as a new thermostat.

I'd listen to this guy. He knows what he's talking about. Do your cooling system BEFORE you lift it. Or you could possibly cause yourself a huge headache later on with your 0331. And I'd stick with an OEM 1 core as djb suggested, which will save yourself roughly a Benjamin or more (which will get you the rest of the cooling system components that you haven't done - fan clutch, thermostat, radiator cap) and you'll have some money left over. It won't take you more than a half a Saturday to do either. Trust that it will be time and money well spent
