Folks

Looking at 1995 XJ. Sticker on valve cover is attached. Can somebody tell me if this means what? Was the engine was replaced? Seller says so but I am not sure. There is a similar thread https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/sti...-cover-113099/ here give me some clue but I can't figure out for sure.

Can somebody please help?

Mine had a sticker like that when I bought it a few years back, so I assume they all came that way.

That sticker means nothing. Check the block if your really curious.

Quote:
4.0 Engine date codes

The date code is on the passenger side of the engine, on the block, just forward and up from the distributor on a machined flat surface.

The digits of the code identify:
 1st Digit-The year (8 = 1998).
 2nd & 3rd Digits-The month (01 - 12).
 4th & 5th Digits-The engine type/fuel system/compression ratio (MX = A 4.0 Liter (242 CID) 8.7:1 compression ratio engine with a multi-point fuel injection system).
 6th & 7th Digits-The day of engine build (01 - 31).
1. FOR EXAMPLE: Code * 801MX12 * identifies a 4.0 Liter (242 CID) engine with a multi-point fuel injection system, 8.7:1 compression ratio and built on January 12, 1998.

Judging by that valve cover sticker, that engine was built in 95 on March 11 and was number 267521 of that type built at that plant. These are assembly codes indicating when this engine was completed. The block codes are just for when the block was made.
