Okay. You said you have some idea of what you're doing. Let's think about this.

Wheels are straight, steering wheel is not. That means your pitman arm is not centered while driving straight allowing it to turn much farther one way than the other.

Solution: adjust your drag link! This is such an easy solution.

OK, hive mind,
I have a 1999 XJ with all stock suspension and steering. While i plan on acquiring lift on it it is farther down the list due to other pressing fixes. One of them is I believe I have a bit o the D wobbles. i know it has to do with my steering and there is play in the steering. I got 201000 miles on it and I don't think the previews owners did any work to it. Since i plan on keeping the vehicle a while what parts of the steering system should I look at replacing? While i am not a complete newb to turning a wrench this is my fist XJ and my attempt to do some of the work myself. Any input would be appreciated.

whatever is worn out...check everything
look at ball joints first, tie-rod ends second...then look at all of your bushings (diff-side upper/lower lca, trackbar). If ya have the $$s handy swap 'em all, after 200k miles it ain't gonna hurt If you're def. gonna do a lift tho and a lot of those parts will be getting changed out then only do what's needed

I bet the the right side tie rod end is hanging up on the axle mounted sway bar bracket when turning right. Mine does that at full droop with a four inch long arm lift.
