I just replaced the steering column in my '88 with one from a '94 this weekend. It was a fairly easy install. 6 bolts.
2 holding the "U" shaped bracket that hold the steering column up to the dash.
2 that attach the steering column to the firewall.
1 that attaches to the side just in front of the door that connects a stabilizing bar to the steering column.
1 that connects the steering column to the steering box. The last one was a pain. It was a bit tricky to get at and even harder when trying to put the new one in.
All in all it wasn't too bad.
