Default steel wheels

im sure this has been asked but i must not be wording it correctly when i search.

anyways, i want to replace the aluminum american racing wheels on my jeep (15's) that came with it when i bought it and buy some steel wheels.the local u pull it junkyard has tons of rims but i want to make sure im getting right ones. my question is, which ones will be the best? and whats the widest tires i can put on them? this is strictly mud truck. i want to eventually put some 33x10.5 super swampers on it. thanks in advance

Offroading, Steel. If bent you can easily bend them back without breaking them.

How wide of a rim are you getting?

I'd look for something at least 8" wide, so 15"x8" rims would be ideal. If I'm not mistaken you can run up to a 12" wide tire on 15x8s.

yeah, 12.5 wide on an 8 inch rim. so most 33's will fit.

look for some black steelies that have the purple/blue stripe around the edge, those are generally american racing ar767.
you will find the proper bolt pattern on most jeeps and ford ranger/exploders.

otherwise, brand new are only about 70 bux each.

I can understand wanting to go to a black steel rim if you need to replace the stock rims because you are going to a wider tire, because they are cheaper than aluminum. According to your post you have American Racing aluminum wheels which are probably a 15x8 wheel so I really don't understand why someone would want to replace good aluminum riims with steel.

I've got the AR rims your talking about, but mine have a red and blue stripe, not purple. Color prolly faded, though.

I love these rims. Not super heavy, even with 33" BFG M/Ts, and they are plenty strong. I've parked both my Jeeps on top of a stack of them.

the american racing wheels came on it. i figured i could get some steelies (found a set for 50 bucks locally) and sell them for my mud tires. rememeber this is a mud truck that im doing on a minimal budget that i can talk wife into allowing. i got about 700 into already this week counting buyin it for 500.

Most steelies aren't gonna be 8" wide, so won't accept anything over a 10.5" wide tire. If you are looking at 33x12.5s, steelies may not work.

However, it may be a good idea for you to do some research. Slimmer tires tend to slice through the mud better, so a 12.5" tire may not be what you want.

stock steelies are only 7 inch wide.
most aftermarket steelies are usually 8-10 and sometimes 12 inches wide.

and yeah, i guess red and blue stripes for ar767.

I got that you were looking for cheap, that is what I'm saying, if the wheels you have work why spend the money on wheels instead of other things that need upgrading to make it into a mud machine. Aluminum works in mud.

If you can get wheels for $10 a pop, it wouldn't be a horrible idea to swap and sell the aluminum ones you have. You can sell the aluminum ones for more than $10 each, even if you take them to a scrap yard (bit of an exageration, but you get the idea).

Problem is, they are skinny wheels, and won't take a tire wider than 10".

Yes, they should if they are only 10.5" wide.
