Default starts but bogs down and dies

Hey Guys, I’ve been having a problem with my 1990 Cherokee 4.0. All of a sudden it started to have this problem. I went to start it and it would turn over but bog down and die after about 5 seconds. I changed the fuel filter and that made an improvement…i was able to get it to run for about 15 seconds. Starts up fine but loses idle, bogs down and sputters out. If I step on the gas it bogs down quicker and dies. I went through and tried to find the problem with no luck.

Here is what I have checked or replaced….
Replaced the O2 sensor, fuel pump and filter. Replaced the throttle response sensor. Replaced cap, rotor, plugs and wires a year ago. I checked the egr and it “seems” fine. The cat does not appear to be blocked.

I don’t know what else to do but take it to a mechanic….which I can’t really afford to do. Any ideas? Thanks

Did the 90's have a throttle position sensor? I would check that. I had an '87 F150 that did that and it was the TPS.

could be a leak in the intake manifold vacuum...that or the throttle plate could be dirty

Maybe you could do a compression test. I'm glad you got your money back!
