Starting Problem
I read the thread about needing spark, fuel and air cause some guy was having an issue with a 95 XJ not starting at all. I have a 2000 XJ with 160K. What it just started doing is when I initially start it in the morning or when it has been sitting for a long time it just cranks with no start. I wait a couple seconds, then try it again and it turns over and runs normaly after that. I never replaced the fuel pump, could it be that my orig one is failing and not delivering the right amount of fuel when I intitially try to start it or is it some thing else ? thanks guys

Try priming it before starting it. Key to ON, wait 5 seconds, key OFF. Repeat. Repeat.
Try starting. Either the check valve is allowing pressure to bleed down or a fuel injector is leaking if that fixes the problem.

And me too.....I see that the original post was in June 2012...long time to wait for an answer...
But anyway, yes the "poor man's prime" is a good start for diagnosis...been doing it for a long time now.

Yeah, I've been using the poor man's prime to start her. Weird though, she starts right up sometimes when I just hop in a turn the key without priming, but most the time I need to prime it. So basically I should look at the check valve to see if its losing pressure or check the injectors ? Is that all that would cause this problem or should I check anything else ?

I think the check valve is in the fuel pump assembly.
I'd run a can of BG44k through the fuel tank first. It might clean some crud from the check valve and it will definitely clean the injectors in case one or more of them is leaking down intermittently.
Add a can to a full tank and run down to 1/2. Refill and run down to 1/8 tank.

Oh yeah, Roler, Its been a while cause a couple months after that post, I got into an accident with my Jeep. Apparently, I cannot drive through a chevy trailblazer! lol. It was raining out and these things dont have the best brakes, end of story. So I was hung up on the starting issue and moved onto bigger and better things like trying to straighten out the frame in the front that looked like an accordian due to the fact that my steel bumper/brush guard, being that it was bolted to the jeeps underbody, took most of the damage but in return bent a lot of things. It was pushed in on one the driver side more than the passenger side so the steering rod was resting right on the inside wheel well, right where the knuckle is on the rod, so steering it took your whole upper body !!! After, a ton of work, new steering box and lines, a lot of pushing, welding and bending, she is back just in time for winter. Now I need to replace mostly all the bushings in the front, new steering stabilizer and possibly ball joints because I'm getting a loud knocking sound from the front whenever I go around turns with her ! My jeep definitely keeps me busy, but I love her !!!

Thanks cruiser, I'll pick it up on the way home. So after I run a full tank with the BG44K in it and I get to 1/2 a tank, get another bottle of BG44K, Refill to a full tank and run it down to an 1/8 of a tank ? Then what ?

Not always easy to find, and nothing else compares, so don't let someone talk you into something else. High end foreign car shops are most likely to have it as well as dealerships.
