im having some trouble with the xj starting up. the belt squeels when it first turns over too. im thinking its my spark plugs becuse the altinator is keeping my battery charged.

 

Do a tune up (spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor). Test your throttle position sensor. Test your battery. Test your alternator

 

belt squeal = bad belt

probably means that the alternator isnt working that well. could also be your crankshaft position sensor. does it just keep turning over and over? or is it a slow crank like wah... wah... wah...?

 

Its not a bad belt, in the last month ive put 3 gates belts on and the old napa one never squeeled but im goin to do the tune up it sounds like a good idea before i jump start a starting project.

 

Yeah just tighten your belt and you'd be fine. Mine used to squeal for a fraction of a second when my jeep first started up. But I just tightened it today and it's good. After doing a tune up, report back. I'm sure you'll see an improvement
