Default starting issue

If i start and drive my xj for 5 minutes or a couple miles and stop. She wont start. I crawl under it and smack the start with something a few times and sheel kick on. I asummed the starter was bad so i changed that out already but its still does the same thing so maybe the connection is bad?

Bad grounds on the XJ's can cause a lot of strange things to happen.

Like this one time, my grounds were dirty. And my XJ took me to Narnia. By itself. It was strange indeed.

Not to disagree with any of the above....my gummy NSS, when it's hot no problem. When I park it hot, also there is no problem in the AM on the first start. BUT if I've moved it cold I need to hold the key over on start and "finesse" the shifter to get her to crank/start.

If you hold the key over, and jiggle the shifter in park or neutral and it starts, it's your NSS. http://bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neut...ty-switch-nss/

When you go to turn the key, does it crank? If it doesn't, then I'd be leaning towards the NSS too. If it does crank, the NSS is not suspect.

Do you have reverse lights?

It may be time to pull the NSS and give it a good cleaning and re-adjustment.
