Starter recommendations/cautions
I would have to look up the part number but about 12 years ago was able to buy a new, not remmaned, one from my Napa for my '00.
Was not cheap even back then but....
And I only went with the new one cause I could.
Thought it was funny that even back then we did not have a new, not remmaned, alternator for my '00 though.

I have put in some new AC Delco electrical parts including the starter on my '96 XJ - I have had no problems with the replacement starter since my OE Mitsubishi Electric ones gave up the ghost a few years back.

Windlover what did you end up going with? Looks like Napa is reselling a Wai Global. ACDelco looks like a Remy from the pictures which makes me nervous how they can sell it for less than Remy's price. The only Denso is a single at Rock Auto and I've learned my lesson, when a part is on nationwide backorder there's a reason there's one sitting listed on Rock Auto and it's not good.
I reckon you would be pretty right with any starter motor (The Denso is made in China)
You may also wish to take yours apart, and see if the brushes are worn right down or stuck (almost certain)
If this is the case, you can buy new brushes, and its good to go (or have as a spare)
Sometimes the solenoid becomes faulty (which is hard to detect). They can also be replaced but by the time you do brushes and solenoid, (about $75), a new one makes sense
A "rebuilt" one should have new solenoid, brushes and bushes/bearings

So far, it starts right up. Time will tell.
Installation was straight forward although I have beefy control arms which limited access.
