Default Starter Question

Hey guys so this long weekend I went 4x4'ing, enjoyed it came home parked the jeep, went to start it this morning and the starter engaged, then made a horrible whining noise. I pulled it out and noticed the splines are toast. Looking online it says "Jeep Cherokee Start 89-94.

My question is are all they all actually the same, I had a VW Golf and it seemed like every year they changed the starter. It's a 89 4.0 Manual. Could I get one out of picknpull from say a 91?

Rebuilt ones are pretty cheap also and you know what you have then, plus a warranty.

Cruiser do you mean my ring gear or the ring gears in general? Before I put the new starter in I had my brother push the jeep while I looked at the teeth. Mine were okay. Luckily.

Flywheel/flexplate ring gear. Sounds like you've got it covered.

Yeah my first thought was I did some damage to the teeth on the flywheel seeing as I've never heard of a starters breaking teeth like that.

I see you are in Alberta, so I'm guessing you had the Ign off while your brother pushed it. I never read "The Canadian's last words were, "you push while I watch the flywheel....
