Tuneup parts, check for a strong, BLUE spark, and test for proper fuel pressure.

For starters..

It's been many years since i fooled with one of those. I would have your ignition module checked, if i remember right its under the distributer rotor button which you should make sure is still turning. You could have broke a timing chain or dist. gear. Also make sure you are getting fuel . I had to get my carburator rebuilt on one once with similar symptoms.

Good plan.....the importance of solid tuneup hardware cannot be overstated.

Have fun with your Jeep.....

Easy fix, but I'd still give it a tuneup. The best time to do one of those is BEFORE you have problems......

See exactly what he replaced. Best to keep a small notepad with what was replaced, the date and mileage. You will NOT regret having this documentation as there is no way you're going to remember this stuff 2-3 years from now.

I go about 30k on plugs. 60k on wires, cap and rotor. If he didn't replace the fuel filter, should do that too; easy and inexpensive to do.

Replace the distributor cap and rotor if your dad didn't do it. The parts are not that expensive and they wear out.

And it's not the fuel "pump" that you would need to replace, but the fuel "FILTER"
