Seems to coming from one of the pully's directly in the middle of the engine. It seems to be getting worse but only when damp. Suggestions?

Is it the pulley or the belt? If the belt gets wet it will squeal

Good question. I do believe it's the pulley. It sounds a little like a bearing noise along with the squeal.

Get the mechanics stethoscope, it helps to find these things.

For the longest, I thought my pulleys, alternator, compressor squeaked. But it turns out to be the distributor squeaking randomly. The stethoscope helped my pinpoint it.

What he said.

Under 20 bucks at any parts store and it will put an end to guesswork. You'll be amazed at what you can hear.

When you get it, go crazy with it. Listen all over your engine. You will hear voices telling you things you didn't know. Seriously.

Get one.

Once you find the culprit, if it is a pulley, schedule a replacement. If it's squeaking when damp, the next step is squeaking all the time, and the next step is failure.

By the way, OT, you might want to plan on replacing that distributor, if you haven't already. Sounds like your bushings are on the way out. If you wait long enough, it will wipe out your CPS, and you get to replace both of them, maybe after being towed because it wouldn't start.

BTDT, twice.

Absolutely right, Mark. I have a new one sitting in the house, waiting to be installed, but the work keeps getting bumped by house work. I am on borrowed time.

Check your belt tension.

Tension your belt. If it happens when wet or damp that's what it is.
