Default Squeaky column question~

1993 Jeep XJ 4.0
Every once in a while the steering column will squeak as I turn a corner.
Definitely coming from the column itself and wondering how one goes about lubricating or servicing the steering column?

My 98 does the same thing when I first drive it for the day. It stops after a couple of turns or a few minute until it warms up. Mine does it more when it's cold or damp out. Personally I have never worried about mine since it goes away so soon.

Same thing happens with mine. I've read that it's the rubber grommet getting rubbed by the steering shaft where it comes through the firewall. I don't worry about it, it usually goes away after a couple minutes once it's warmed up.

It does seem to be a temp & moisture issue you're right. However I would like to get rid of it.. and wanted to make sure I won't hurt anything if I spray some say silicone or similar on anything that moves.
What do you gentlemen think? Would that be OK? or is there a better way..?

When I was working as a Tech I used to spray silicone on the offending grommet and it took care of the noise for a good long time.

Does it sound like a barking seal? If so, glob some grease onto the area near the gas pedal where the squeak comes from. When you're under there, reach up and turn the steering wheel, and you will see the moving bushing part that is making the sound. Lube that up. Repeat every 6 months.

I've got the same problem in my 1998, its definitely coming from the column (already lubed the grommet on the firewall). Seems to be the worst when cold, but never really goes away. I planned on tracking it down when i tackle my non-working turn-signal cancel.

Lol. I'm cracking up. My 98 does the same thing in the mornings... I've become so used to it that it doesn't bother or even notice it half the time, but my kids get a good laugh every time!

That's probably the part causing the squeak. Not sure what it's called but it appears to have been packed with Lithium grease from factory.
Round, has couple wires coming out? (anybody know proper name?)
Pretty easy to get to with steering wheel off.
Noticed mine while changing turn signal assembly.

My 99 has the same squeak.

It only started happening after I took my dash apart back in November so I figured something was just rubbing on something else. Ever since it's been getting a lil warmer these past few weeks it's gone away
