Default Speedometer went out

i was driving and noticed that the speedometer was jumping up and down so i hit the gas and then it jumped back down to 5mph, about a mile later it jumped back up to the speed i was going then went out about 5 min later, idk much about the speed systems on the cherokee but is it cable or electronic? if its cable does it go to the transmission? its in a 92 cherokee laredo, any details would help, thanks

My '93 Laredo has electronic speedo. The sensor is on the transfer case. It's simple to test or replace. Some jeeps have cables tho, so you'll probably have to look at it.
