speedometer gear

i an needing to replace my speedometer gear for my jeep because my gear is chipped i was wondring if it mattered how many tooth the gear has? im looking on ebay and i see millions of gears with different numbers from 27 to 35 to 31 etc. im just wondering how many tooth i should get or if anyone can send me a link to the right gears i need for my 96..

Look at your old one and it should have a number on it. Just match up with same and also there are long shaft and short shaft so make sure you get the same as you have. If you have changed tire size you could change the gear to put your speedo back right.
