Default care for aluminum wheels

first, I couldn't find a better place for this thread so I picked oem.

second, I hope these pictures attach okay, ill have to get on a computer later and check.

anyways my ravine wheels are in sad shape on the inside. how can I get these clean? is this the top coat coming off? any help would be great.

Looks like the clear coat is coming off in spots. To remove the clear coat you will need to use aircraft paint remover. It is a very time intensive process. Unless you are looking for show quality I would not attempt. If the front of the wheels look, just roll with it!

That salt they drop on the roads in the winter cause damage like that.

im not looking for showroom, just want these things to last! I love them on my xj. the outside looks way better I just don't want it to spread.

i would try mother wax for wheels and a small buffer wheel on a drill . yeah i agree the clar is coming off , its a pain to get it all the way off too. but just to clen them up a little bit mother wax will help

could the black stuff just be like brake dust? would just a cleaning solvent get that off?

I scrubbed all morning and soap and water did hardly anything.

You could try like a SOS pad on the inside but pretty sure the clear is coming off

yeah it's coming off in a few places. but its the inside oh well. the exterior looks great on these.

You could clean the inside and bedline the inside only to get a cleaner look.

clean it with the simple green? than bedline it? sounds good to me.

Krylon semi-flat black Rust Tuff is pretty good. Just mask off the front side to keep overspray down.

use engine degreaser, fast orange hand cleaner, a sos pad and goo gone and it will look great.
