Red face Speedometer, Cruise & Horn Not working....anybody?

I have a 1995 Cherokee 2WD, Automatic AW4, stock.

My Speedmeter / odometer , Horn and Cruise control are not working. I did not realize at first that the horn and cruise were out. I have replaced the VSS as well as checked the Speedometer Drive Gear, also checked, Cleaned and Greased connectors from VSS to main harness. Also eliminated the dash cluster as the issue by trying a junk yard one.

I am going to double check and clean all grounds.

Any ideas of a common connection or ground point I could have missed? Has anyone else seen this combination of issues?

Any help would be GREATLY Appreciated!

I have heard the clock spring could cause some of these problems, I could well be wrong though.

Just went through this. Clock spring is the answer.

My gauge cluster quit working for weeks. It sucked. Clock spring was the answer.

A little update, I have not ordered my clockspring yet, but today after a 6" snow and very cold my horn is working, sounds really sick.... I am guessing the cold has expanded a short and allowing some connection...???

I got a clock spring from a junkyard. It worked for me but I guess its kind of hit and miss to get a good one. You might also look for part outs in your area.

If the horn relay is still clicking when you press it, then power is moving through the clockspring. However, don't rule a faulty clockspring because your cruise is still not working. Plus, you have intermittent issues with your horn. I would still diagnose and probably end up replacing the clock spring. Its very common.

As for the Speedometer, the two connectors to the back of the instrument cluster are known for giving bad connections at times. Remove the cluster, look for build up on the connector tied to the harness and the back of the cluster. Early model TJ's also had this problem and Jeep released a TSB on this as well pertaining to the TJ. Not 100% positive if the TSB carried over to the XJ, but many have the same issues.
