I now have 6.5" Sony X-plodes in the front doors and 6x9" Sony X-plodes in the hatch. They all fit and sound great. Didn't use the fancy speaker covers that came with them. I like the fit and finish with it all behind the stock covers.

Can I put 6" speakers in the front? The depth for the 5 1/4" speakers and my 6" are the same. What is the depth I have to stay under in the rear? Will the speaker connectors on the factory speakers connect to the aftermarket, or do I have to get speaker adapters? Anyone know where I can find a mounting kit with a pocket for my Cherokee?
As for Bowtie's question... if you really like those 5X9's, you could do what i did and box the speakers in the back and extend the wiring from the rear hatch back through your trim panels to into behind the back seats. Thats what i did for my 6X9's kuz i didnt feel like cutting the holes. Mind you, i do have the sound bar up top but it wouldnt be much different to run the wires back through the hatch into the trim panels. you could even skip running the speaker wires back from the hatch and cut em off where they go into the hatch and run em down through the trim from there. Its kinda hard to explain but as a 17 year old who knew nothing about speakers or wiring, i was able to do it in my XJ :P
Good luck!

Ive got 96 2 door xj and im thinkin about putting 6.5s in the doors. These will fit as long as the magnet dosent touch the backside of the door right? Ive also got the sound bar on the roof in the back. If its just wood under the headliner on the sound bar couldnt I just cut the holes out to fit 6x9s? Ive only had the jeep for a few days and I havent noticed if it has speakers in the back hatch or not. should it? What size could I fit in there?

All the speakers I've ever bought have been pictured on the box and any literature yo might read about with a grill. In all reality the grille is usually not attached when you get them and is an option when you install.

Also, anyone with the last gen XJ's ever use a crossover network to split the main rear line to the sound bar and custom 6x9's in the hatch?

I've got Pioneer 3 way speakers all around. Stock replacement size, no amp yet, but they sound great. The treble on them kicks butt combined with my sub. Next sound mod is an amp to power them up a bit (150watts each). Get stock size, because the rest is overkill in such a small cabin. You're wheelin...not catching a concert
I just finished installing my stereo for now, I've been riding around for 2 weeks humming to myself, I got Pioneer 3 way 6x9s in the rear hatch and soundstream 2 way 5 1/4s in the front doors and Soundstream tweeters going in the headliner, and a Clarion CD/MP3 deck, For now
