Default Speaker question....

Just a question for those of you who are like me on a budget....so in my 96 XJ Sport I assume I only have 4 speakers (someone let me know if I am wrong). I dont have much money and all the speakers in my Jeep are way past done. Is it better to replace the ones in the door or the ones in the back pillar? I would think the doors ones would be better casue they are closer but I am not a master acoustics expert so for all I know the rear ones would be better. I will be replacing with the same size 5 1/4. Eeventually I will have have money to replace all the speakers...just want to know what are the best ones to replace first so I can listen to my Buffet and Crowes.

Any help is appriciated...thanks.

Yeah the fronts first, they be louder and be able to feel the music more. but I would recommend 6 1/2s they bolt right up with no modification

Dude Welcome! another real XJ in RVA!
Id replace my front two first with some kickers. Go to crutchfeild their like 60 for two with a plug and play harness so its a lot better than bargain shopping this stuff. Also you have two tweeters underneath your front dash. you can find some speakers at CAP also on the real cheap.

I have those kickers i think, but in 6 1/2. I'm pretty sure the tweeters are only on those that came with the infinity system

Will the 6 1/2 fit in the doors or will I have the speaker grills sticking out of the doors?

What most do with the 6.5" is trim the cardboard panel and screw the speaker grill into it, thus eliminating the OE grills

And I'd veer away from Kicker, much better options in a similar price range.

My kickers mounted with no issue, In the rear I was able to use either the oem or kicker grills(went with the kicker) and the fronts dont use any grills, they sit behind the door panel. Took me longer to rewire the front door speakers than to actually install all the speakers

Its a good time to run a shielded wire through the door jam, they always crack and ground out.

Thats funny, after I installed mine. I was cleaning out my shed and found a set of old *** alpines. But they were like 40 rms and 90 peak. Mine are 150 rms and 300 peak

Does anyone know where I can pick up the wires for the pioneer speakers. I picked some up recently but they didn't come with any wires. To clarify I'm talking about the wires that plug into the two tabs on the speaker.

6 1/2s are gonna be fine. You should change front speakers first. I would recommend coaxial speakers, they are great for anything but not best for anything either. I use Alpines on front, JVCs at back and I'm pretty satisfied with the performance.
