Spare tire size...+/- how much?
Im looking to the elders for their .02 on what kinda spare to have...right now theres no funds for a full size spare and I need one asap. So the question is will a 31x10.5 work as a "trail" spare if Im running 33x12.5? The wheels bolt pattern is the same and everything else jives except the 2'' differences. I def want a 33'' spare but not sure if its a smart option to carry the 31'' in case I need it then stress/break something in the process on riding it off the trail and home. I know this is alot of typing for a simple question but Im just trying to put across what my concerns are.

It wouldnt be a problem for a spare on the trail where there is somewhat loose material and I dont think it would be a problem on the road but I would keep the off size tire in the front just in case.

i wouldn't run that in 4wd at all with an odd sized tire.. a little common sense but i had to say it.... jeeps get ugly very fast when in 4wd and odd sized tires lol

I can't find a spec for jeeps but on our wheel loaders it's no more than 5% (if my memory is correct) difference in circumference right to left and front to back. Problem with mis-matched tires on the highway is that the axles are constantly differentiating at high speed where they were just designed to differentiate in a turn. This causes accelerated wear on the spider gears and will smoke the clutches in a limited slip diff. That's why on cars with the compact spare the recomended speed is reduced along with a milage, they are trying to sace the diff/ transaxle. I wish I had a spec but it may be just a rule of thumb

dont run mixed tires in 4x4!!! and when my jeep was stock i ran one 235x75x15 while my other 3 were 215x75x15 and it was a little off balance but did the trick for 2 days until i got 5 of the same ones, but as they said run it up front dont use 4x4 and try not to go too fast lol

You should be ok with it if your driving under 50 miles or so.
Keep your speed down as well, and definitely put the smaller one up front.
get a full size as soon as you can

Sorry to thread jack but its similar question and dont want to start a new thread. I ordered 31x10.50SSRs [4] And bought a 31x10.50 used wrangler for a spare. Will that be ok? Thanks in advance. The SSRs are about an inch taller.

.Stealing the thunder here. I have 225 on front and 215 on back. Was wondering if that is ok to run as I am very limited on $. I am not much of an offroader so 4wd is only used in snowy icy conditions. Thanks guys
